BOOK A GETAWAY NEAR YOU
My first stay at a Postcard Cabin (formerly called Getaway) was outside Washington, DC in Stanardsville, Virginia near Shenandoah National Park. The two-night stay was exactly what I needed after dealing with the year 2020. Since then, I’ve stayed there multiple times more. Now, I’m always waiting for a chance to take a long weekend away.
Postcard Cabins
Postcard Cabins are tiny cabins located at outposts around the country, nestled into the wilderness outside of major cities. The idea is to help you disconnect from the stresses of daily life and reconnect with nature and yourself. Each cabin comes with a cell phone lockbox that you can use to stash away your phone. The WiFi signal isn’t always reliable.
The Postcard Cabins Experience
Although there is a lack of technology, a stay here isn’t exactly roughing it either. Cabins come equipped with a mini fridge, kitchenette with dishes and utensils, food and snacks for purchase, stainless steel shower, toilet, heat, and air conditioning. Outside of each cabin is a picnic table and chairs around the fire pit. The cabins are clean and very cute, with wood paneling all throughout, comfy beds, and a mini dining or writing table.
The company founders’ books are on the bookshelf and you get a free s’mores kit – a must-have for any camping trip. The focal point of the cabin is the large window that you wake up to every morning. It gives you a connection to nature even while you’re indoors. Postcard Cabins is perfect for those of us who love nature, but would prefer to have some basic comforts.
I took this opportunity to enjoy quality time with my family, read a lot, journal, and just relax. Even though it poured on our last evening, it was nice to read in the coziness of the cabin with the sound of rain through the open window.
My next stay was during autumn, which is the best time in my opinion. The colors are beautiful and the weather is perfect for taking a hike in Shenandoah National Park. In any season, make sure to step outside at nighttime to see a star-filled sky unobstructed by city lights.
I highly recommend a Postcard Cabins experience to anyone who feels stressed out by the world or in their own life. Even though you’ll return to the same circumstances, maybe you’ll return with a commitment to take better care of yourself.
P.S. Don’t forget to book your stay. Let me know in the comments if you plan to book a Postcard Cabins getaway near your city!
Although I stayed off social media, I did use my phone and camera to film a video of my experience. Watch it below or on my YouTube channel.
